Happy Alaska Day!

Today is Alaska Day! 150 years ago the US gained the territory of Alaska from Russia. Kelsey and Joey absolutely loved visiting there in the fall of 2012 and Kelsey is beyond excited to be going back in Spring of 2018! So much to love about the Last Frontier! Saturdays in Knoxville

Kelsey and Joey both graduated from the University of Tennessee, so Saturday's are dedicated to UT Football. This year has been a little rough so far, but we will still back our Vols no matter what. We try to make it to as many games as we can each year, Yona has even jumped in with us and wears orange instead of purple on Saturdays. So here is a glimpse into our Saturdays in Knoxville. Go Vols! Garden of the Gods

South of Denver in Colorado Springs is an amazingly beautiful park of red rocks called Garden of the Gods. Named such by the founders because of the formations and beauty. The rocks reach to the sky like skyscrapers and one neat place is called Balance Rock, because one giant rock is balanced on a much smaller rock and the road goes right below it. There is an area here to get out pictures, but it is usually really crowded. This is a great park to ride through or hike. It is a quick drive through the park, but there are two roads on which to travel on that both offer great views of the different parts of the park, so make the drive twice around so you can see both. I enjoyed rolling the windows down and taking in all the sights since it was such a pleasant day when we went. Once again I wish we had more time to get out and hike some, but I was glad to roll the windows down and enjoy the ride. Joey and Kelsey Savannah, Kelsey and Jasmine Joey acting like he isn...

Rocky Mountain High

Rocky Mountain National Park is beautiful! We drove through Boulder up to Estes Park to enter the park. I loved watching the scenery change from rolling hills to rocky mountain peaks. I truly enjoyed the scenic drive as we climbed in elevation up to around 12,000 feet on Trail Ridge Road. We drove for about an hour or so to Medicine Bow Curve. From there you could see snow still on the mountain peaks in the distance and the temperature dropped from 80 degrees in Boulder to about 39 degrees at our turnaround point. The mountain range was quite a sight and went as far as the eye could see. This was such a great drive, but I wish we had more time to get out and hike. I would have loved to hit the trails and see what we could accomplish on foot. Maybe next time, but until then I will be dreaming of these Rocky Mountains. So excited we made it to RMNP! Mile High City

Kelsey and Joey recently went to Denver for the American Indian Science and Engineering Society Conference. Kelsey was out there from Monday to Saturday flying with Frontier Airlines direct from Knoxville, since they had such cheap airfare ($158 roundtrip), but that also means you have to fly when they fly, which isn't everyday. Since she had more time out there she was able to explore more of the area, which is why we will be hearing from her. Leaving Knoxville I love that the mountains provide the perfect backdrop for Denver. It is so beautiful in the evening when the sun is setting and the mountains turn blue while the skyline lights up. Which is why I love Denver, it reminds me of home while still providing the city experience. I stayed at the Hyatt Regency near the Convention Center, which I highly recommend. The bar on the 27th floor offers fantastic views of the city and the mountains, although 54 Thirty rooftop bar at neighboring Le Meridian is a lot more fun and energ...
