Simply Savannah: Day 1

Arriving in Savannah always has us giddy because our first stop is Mrs. Wilkes' Dining Room on Jones Street. This has to be one of my favorite places to eat in Savannah. Famous fried chicken plus more sides than you can keep up with are served family style at a table where you sit with new people every time. Always try to dress with loose fitting clothes because after this feast you are going to need the extra room. Side note: while you're waiting in line at Mrs. Wilkes' be sure to check out the cute boutique on the corner: One Fish, Two Fish. We always walk out with some unique local finds.

This year we got to Savannah earlier than usual so this gave us time to shop on Broughton, all your name brand, plus a few local places and you will be walking away with a few armfuls. Also on Broughton is World of Beer. They have a great selection of local and unique brews from around the world. I just love this mural they have painted on their wall as you walk in. Such a great greeting from one of my favorite cities.

Our home away from home for the long weekend is Holiday Inn Express Historic District on East Bay Street. We love it's central location and that is has a rooftop pool overlooking the river. Just steps away from River Street and Reynolds Square sits this clean and friendly hotel.
As seen on Snapchat, our rooftop pool!
The water was cold, but the UO flamingo holder works
After our fun in the pool, we got ready for an evening on River Street. We make sure to stop by our favorite Wet Willie's and grab a slushy for the walk, or in this case to just sit and people watch on our favorite bench. This place just has such a great atmosphere and we love to sit around, chat, and take in the beauty of River Street.

So after some time sitting and enjoying the views, it is time for dinner and on River Street what better place than Tubby's Tank House. A great local place that has a patio overlooking the river and when a barge goes by and toots that loud horn you can get a discounted drink. For dinner I had more fried food (shrimp), but it's just too good to pass up. Joey had the shrimp and grits. I wish I had after pictures, but there really wasn't anything to show.

After dinner shenanigans. I told you people watching on River Street is entertaining, even if it is your own people.

or like he doesn't care anyways
To round out our evening on River Street we enjoyed a local artist who was there to entertain. He took requests, sang with soul and overall was a great addition to our evening out. Yona even chimed in every now and then.

I hope you enjoyed hearing about our first day in sunny Savannah. Check back again to see the best beach near the city.

Gateway to the West: St. Louis

St. Louis is a beautiful place to visit in the fall. There are so many fun historical things to do in and around the city. My favorite place to visit is St. Charles, which is about 35 minutes Northwest of St. Louis. This is like a picture perfect fall town out of a movie. The cobblestone streets lined with cute local businesses and trees changing with the season are just charming. We walked along the street checking out the local shops and tried some of their local wine. I absolutely loved the warm pumpkin wine with whipped cream at Bella Vino. This was just a quintessential fall town and I absolutely fell in love with it! And of course no trip to St. Louis is complete with out a trip to the Gateway Arch!

Rocky Mountain High

Rocky Mountain National Park is beautiful! We drove through Boulder up to Estes Park to enter the park. I loved watching the scenery change from rolling hills to rocky mountain peaks. I truly enjoyed the scenic drive as we climbed in elevation up to around 12,000 feet on Trail Ridge Road. We drove for about an hour or so to Medicine Bow Curve. From there you could see snow still on the mountain peaks in the distance and the temperature dropped from 80 degrees in Boulder to about 39 degrees at our turnaround point. The mountain range was quite a sight and went as far as the eye could see. This was such a great drive, but I wish we had more time to get out and hike. I would have loved to hit the trails and see what we could accomplish on foot. Maybe next time, but until then I will be dreaming of these Rocky Mountains. So excited we made it to RMNP!
