One of the Twin Cities

Minneapolis during the fall is chilly. Thankfully we stayed around the convention center/downtown and the Skyway really helped us navigate the city and stay warm. Although it can be confusing at first it is pretty easy to get around downtown if you just follow the maps posted and know where you want to go. Even if you don't know where you want to go you can still enjoy walking around, taking in all the views without being out in the elements.
While there we ate at so many good restaurants! Hell's Kitchen, Hen House, and The Local Irish Pub to name a few. I really enjoyed the atmosphere in each of these places, but The Local Irish Pub had to be my favorite! I felt like I was back overseas enjoying time in an actual Irish Pub. There was wood and hidden nooks all over the place and like a typical pub it looks small at first, but then it just keeps going as you wonder about. The food was excellent (I had the Guinness Pie and tried Joey's bangers and mash) and the drinks plenty! Hell's Kitchen was my second favorite only because I didn't feel like I was in Ireland, but that doesn't mean it wasn't a great place to try local food. You walk downstairs under lots of hanging devices that look like they could hurt you, but so worth it. I enjoyed the diverse menu and wanted to try a little of everything, but the rich food had me barely finishing what was in front of me. I would definitely trying one of their local dishes. The Hen House is a great breakfast place, but the must try is the cinnamon roll. We actually got this on accident and it was by far the best treat! I enjoyed my entire meal, but I am still dreaming of that cinnamon roll!
Of course no trip to Minneapolis is complete without a trip to the Mall of America. This place is massive and slightly overwhelming, but it has great places to shop, eat and play. Joey thoroughly enjoyed the flight simulator and stayed there by himself for most of our trip out to the mall. I loved the fact that a L.L. Bean store was in the mall. I absolutely love their stuff and it was nice to actually be able to pick it up and look at it before buying it. My favorite socks come from here so I loaded up!

Fall Fun in the Park

This weekend the trio hopped back on their Remember the Removal bikes and took a ride in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This is a beautiful time of year to visit the park and the Blue Ridge Parkway. The weather has been warm in the afternoon so we decided to take a ride while the weather was so nice. The sun was shining bright, the leaves are gold, orange, red and since it is prime leaf looking season cars everywhere! Besides the heavy traffic we enjoyed our ride. The elk were out enjoying the sun and a late lunch. The leaves falling as we rode to Smokemont Campground made the ride a fall dream. The colors were so vibrant and crunching under the wheels. I loved having a moment to just enjoy the outdoors even if I'm paying for it today. The soreness has set in because I haven't been on my bike in months, but it was so worth it! Since we are all busy with work and travel we have to find ways to stay healthy. Biking is a good way for us to do that and I loved spending th...

Scottish Highlands and the Hairy Coo!

Traveling North outside of the city is quite an adventure. You have two bridges to choose from, one old sturdy bridge or a newer bridge with wider space, both are architectural beauties! We traveled by coach on a tour through Viator. It was the most convenient option for traveling through the Highlands and getting on the Jacobite aka, the "Harry Potter Train." This was an overnight tour from Edinburgh to Fort William with several stops along the way. We heard so many stories along the way about Mary Queen of the Scots, the Loch Ness and Nessie, Jacobites, wars, Glen Coe and whiskey. Coming from the mountains of WNC we found a lot in common with the Highlanders, very similar stories of little people, whiskey/moonshine, and folk music. Made us feel like we were riding around home! I really enjoyed our tour guide and the tour overall, I would definitely recommend this tour for anyone wanting an easy navigation through the Highlands. There is just so much I can say about how amaz...
